Honolulu's skyline and Diamond Head appear along the south shore. You see the crater from above.

  2. pass by
    2. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

The bay's reefs pass beneath the helicopter. You'll see volcanic cliffs around this stretch of coast.

  3. pass by
    3. Makapuu Point

The route rounds Makapuu Point onto the windward coast toward the mountains.

  4. pass by
    4. Mount Olomana

The inland turn passes Mount Olomana's three peaks on the way toward Nuuanu.

  5. pass by
    5. Nuuanu Valley

Nuuanu Valley's forested slopes come into view as you follow the terrain from above.

  6. pass by

  8. pass by

The route takes 30 minutes in the air. It ends back at HNL, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Your meeting and finishing point is the Castle and Cooke Aviation building.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Meeting and timing: Check-in is at 155 Kapalulu Place inside the Castle and Cooke Aviation building. You need to be there 60 minutes before takeoff.
  • Ride and parking: You'll need your own ride to check-in. Free parking is across the street in the large lot on the left.
  • Voucher: Bring your electronic or paper voucher to check-in. Rainbow also needs every passenger's name and weight before the flight.
  • Doors-off gear: Closed-toe shoes and a jacket or sweatshirt are required. Long hair must be tied back. Long pants are recommended for your flight.

Before you book

  • Choose your door option for the cabin experience. An outside seat isn't guaranteed.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

The shared 30-minute option fits a solo traveler who wants the Pali cliffs with the doors off. You don't need a private booking. Your weight must meet the aircraft's open-door minimum. The seat beside an opening isn't guaranteed.

For a cabin to yourselves, Honolulu Helicopter Tours' private half-hour flight follows the south shore from $359 per person in a group of 2. Sights Unseen reaches Sacred Falls from $490 per person in a group of 6.

Means: Choose the shared doors-off option for a 30-minute mountain route if an outside seat isn't essential to you.

Who it's not for

  • Anyone requiring a seat directly beside an open door
  • Doors-off passengers below 80 lb in the R44 or 100 lb in the Astar
  • Travelers wanting a North Shore circuit

Good to know

Know before you go

Open-door eligibility

The R44 requires at least 80 lb for doors off, while the Astar requires 100 lb. Your aircraft determines the threshold. A shared doors-off ticket doesn't reserve the seat nearest the opening.

Children's seats

Passengers age 2 and older need their own full-price seat. Infants under 2 can ride on a lap with doors on. Choose the enclosed option when a child's weight rules out doors off.

Weight surcharges

A passenger weighing 250 lb to under 275 lb incurs a 50% seat surcharge. From 275 lb, an additional seat must be bought. Your charge is assessed after booking.

Clothing for doors off

Closed-toe shoes and a jacket or sweatshirt are compulsory for doors off. A hair tie is needed for long hair, and long pants are recommended. Apparently intoxicated passengers can be refused without a refund.

Before takeoff

Arrival is 60 minutes ahead at Castle and Cooke Aviation, with free parking across the street. Your voucher can be shown electronically. Weather or aircraft weight restrictions can shift departure, so leave room in your schedule.

Booking limit

The booking cap of 15 travelers with an adult doesn't describe one helicopter's seating. Full names and passenger weights are required. You also need to give Rainbow a contact number for your party.

Questions

People also ask

  • What does Path to Pali cost?

Path to Pali starts from $440 per person in a group of 6. Shared and private flights are available, with doors on or off.

  • Is Path to Pali a private helicopter tour?

The standard 30-minute flight is shared. A private option lets your party keep the cabin to itself. Check the cabin choice before booking if privacy decides the trip for you.

  • Does Path to Pali land at the Nuuanu Pali lookout?

No, the 30-minute tour views the cliffs from the helicopter. It doesn't include time at the roadside lookout. You'll need a separate ground visit if you want to walk around there.

  • Does Path to Pali accept a phone ticket?

Yes, an electronic voucher is accepted at the 60-minute check-in. A printed voucher is also accepted. Keep the voucher ready before you reach the desk inside Castle and Cooke Aviation.

  • What is Path to Pali's cancellation deadline?

The full-refund deadline is 24 hours before scheduled departure. Canceling later doesn't return your payment. That deadline concerns your decision to cancel rather than a change made by the flight crew.
