Which option to book

This option buys a shared shark snorkel. Daily departures run every 2 hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Option Departures
Open Water Shark Dive 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., daily
Means: Book the 7 a.m. shared trip if your party wants a boat capped at 6 guests without reserving it privately.

The catch: You must be able to swim, with roughly 45 minutes planned in open water.

The day

How does the day work?

Your crew prepares you aboard before the safety diver assesses the offshore site and invites guests into the water.

  1. 1
    Board and gear up

The crew helps your group aboard at Haleiwa Harbor and provides snorkel gear. The shark briefing follows once everyone has their equipment.

  2. 2
    Shark briefing

You learn how to behave around the sharks before reaching the dive site. The crew also describes marine life you might encounter.

  3. 3
    Water entry

The safety diver checks conditions in the water first. You enter after the assessment to swim or freedive under the diver's watch.

  4. 4
    Cruise back

The crew discusses the animals seen during the encounter as you return to Haleiwa. There's time for questions on the ride back.

The swim is planned for roughly 45 minutes within a trip lasting up to 2 hours. You finish beside Haleiwa's harbor master building.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Finding the boat: After entering Haleiwa Harbor, the road curves right toward the center. Your boat is to the left of the two-story harbor master building.
  • Arrival window: Arrive at the boat 30 minutes before your booked departure. Your trip leaves from the harbor's central area.
  • Road transport: The boat price doesn't cover travel from your hotel. You need your own ride to Haleiwa and back.

Before you book

  • Your safety diver enters first to assess the sharks and sea conditions. You don't enter before the safety diver's invitation.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

A 6-guest cap suits swimmers who prefer small groups. You still book individual places. You should be comfortable with roughly 45 minutes of open water swimming. It's a fit if you don't need the boat to yourselves.

For your own boat, Hawaii Adventure's private trip costs from $753.99 per group for up to 6. For a swim with photos and video included, Islandview's shark swim costs from $150 per person.

Means: Book the 7 a.m. shared departure for a small group without paying for a private boat.

Who it's not for

  • Guests who can't swim
  • Parties larger than 6 wanting one boat
  • Pregnant travelers or guests with heart conditions
  • Travelers with spinal injuries

Good to know

Know before you go

Children who swim

Children aged 5 and older can join with an adult. Everyone entering the water needs to know how to swim. A safety diver's presence doesn't remove that entry requirement.

Swimwear and equipment

Wear your swimwear for the boat trip and bring a towel for afterward. The crew provides snorkel equipment. You may use your own gear if you prefer that fit.

Weather cancellations

Bad weather can lead to a new departure date or a full refund. Hawaii Adventure Diving sends changes by email or phone. Your booking contact details need to reach you during your stay.

Shared guest limit

This shared boat takes no more than 6 guests. One reservation can cover that many travelers and must include an adult. Smaller bookings share the remaining places with other guests.

Harbor check-in

Your boat is left of the central two-story harbor master building. Check in 30 minutes before departure. The journey from your hotel isn't included, so your arrival depends on your own transport.

Refund deadline

The mobile booking has a 24-hour cancellation deadline for a full refund. Canceling later won't return your payment.
