The day

How does the day work?

Your lesson starts on the ride out from Haleiwa and continues in the water with a shark specialist.

  1. 1
    Harbor boarding

You meet the One Ocean Diving crew at the blue kiosk before boarding. The boat leaves at your booked departure time.

  2. 2
    Shark briefing

A marine biologist explains shark body language and behavior. You learn how your movements can affect the encounter.

  3. 3
    Surface snorkel

You can watch from the surface or swim down if you're comfortable. The safety diver guides your time with the sharks.

  4. 4
    Return to harbor

The boat heads back to Haleiwa after the swim. Your trip ends at the harbor where you boarded.

The outing takes 2 hours, with 45 to 60 minutes in the water when conditions allow. The time in the water isn't fixed. The return boat brings you to Haleiwa Harbor.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Meeting time: Arrive at the blue One Ocean Diving kiosk at least 10 minutes before sailing. The boat leaves on schedule.
  • Your transfer: You make your own way to Haleiwa Harbor. Hotel pickup isn't included with this booking.
  • Trip instructions: Your crew needs an email address to send trip instructions. You can provide it by calling or texting One Ocean Diving.
  • What to bring: Bring towels and a reusable water bottle. Drones aren't permitted aboard.

Before you book

  • This is snorkeling, so you don't need scuba training. You can stay at the surface throughout the encounter.

Is this tour right for you?

Fit swimmers can choose this tour for 45 to 60 minutes of water time when conditions allow. It suits you if the biology lesson matters too. Your height must reach 4 feet for water entry. A scuba qualification isn't needed.

  • Guests unable to swim
  • Pregnant travelers or guests with heart conditions

Good to know

Know before you go

Water entry

Water participants must stand at least 4 feet tall and be able to swim. Guests under 80 pounds need their own fitted life vest. A child's ticket alone doesn't establish swimming eligibility.

Towels and water

Bring 1 or 2 towels and a reusable water bottle. Snorkel gear and a rash guard come with your tour. There isn't a restroom aboard, so use one before departure.

Changing conditions

Rain doesn't automatically cancel the trip. Wind and surface conditions can delay or stop it. Book earlier in your stay to leave room for a different departure if conditions change.

Booking size

You can include up to 12 guests in one reservation with an adult. The boat carries other parties unless booked privately. Your place on this educational tour isn't a private charter.

Before the harbor

One Ocean needs your email address by call or text before travel. You meet at the blue kiosk at least 10 minutes early. A missed boat doesn't earn a refund or another departure.

Cancellation window

The mobile booking allows a full refund for cancellation at least 24 hours before departure. Inside that window, cancellations aren't refundable. A change of plans needs handling before the cutoff.

  • Does One Ocean's educational tour require diving certification?

No certification is needed for this shark snorkel. You can spend the 45 to 60 minutes of water time at the surface, conditions permitting. Swimming ability still matters, and entering the water requires a height of at least 4 feet.

  • Can children swim on One Ocean's educational shark tour?

Yes, children who meet the swimming and height requirements can enter. The water minimum is 4 feet tall. Bring a fitted life vest for any participant under 80 pounds, since that requirement applies separately from the child's age.

  • Does One Ocean's educational tour pick up in Waikiki?

No, your journey to Haleiwa is separate from the tour. The meeting point is the blue One Ocean kiosk near the launch area. Plan to be there at least 10 minutes before your booked boat leaves.
