Option Departures
1.5 Hour Horseback Ride 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Mon to Sat

The day

How does the day work?

A wrangler leads you through pasture and forest to a lookout over the North Shore before returning to the ranch.

  1. 1
    Safety demonstration

Your check-in comes first at the Trails Office. The safety demonstration starts 15 minutes before the ride.

  2. 2
    Pasture and forest

The group follows a wrangler through open pasture and shaded trails. Horses travel at a walk throughout.

  3. 3
    Coastal lookout

The lookout has views toward Laie and the North Shore coastline. You can take photos during the pause.

  4. 4
    Back to the ranch

The ride brings you back to Gunstock Ranch. You'll finish at the same place where you met the group.

Your horseback ride lasts 90 minutes. The early check-in and safety demo come before it. The tour doesn't finish at a different trailhead.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Trails Office: Gunstock Ranch lies between Laie and Kahuku. You meet at its Trails Office and arrange your own ride there. Parking is free.
  • Arrival time: Check in 45 minutes before your chosen departure. Missing the later safety demo means you can't join the ride.
  • Clothing: Long pants and covered shoes are recommended for horseback riding. A light jacket can help in cooler weather.
  • Photos: Phones and small cameras are allowed on the ride. You can bring one for the coastal lookout.

Before you book

  • Arrive 45 minutes before the ride for check-in. You won't join if you miss the safety demo 15 minutes before departure.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

Two or more riders can book this 90-minute outing if everyone is at least 7. It suits you when a slow horseback ride is the point of the visit. The horses stay at a walk. You won't be choosing the pace yourself.

For a seated film tour with infants welcome, Movie Sites costs from $62.77 per adult. Novice E-Bike suits travelers who prefer to pedal through ranch scenery, from $104.66 per adult.

Means: Choose 11 a.m. for a later morning start, with time for the required early check-in.

Who it's not for

  • Solo riders trying to book one place
  • Riders under 7 or over 235 lb
  • Guests seeking a trot or gallop
  • Pregnant travelers or guests with back problems

Good to know

Know before you go

Rider limits

You must be at least 7 and weigh no more than 235 lb. Each rider's weight is needed when booking. Pregnant or intoxicated guests can't ride, and the trip isn't recommended for guests with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

Riding clothes

Long pants and covered shoes suit this ride. Bring a light jacket for cool weather. Phones or small cameras can come with you, but backpacks and large bags aren't allowed on the horseback tour.

Mandatory demonstration

Check-in is 45 minutes before your departure at the Trails Office. The safety demonstration begins 15 minutes before the ride. Missing that demonstration means missing the tour, even if you already have riding experience.

Rain and cancellations

Gunstock rides in ordinary rain. If the ranch cancels because conditions are unsafe, you can take another date or a full refund. Your own decision to stay away because of rain doesn't automatically produce the same refund.

Booking a group

The ride needs at least two people, with a maximum group of 12. Your ticket is mobile and the ranch must accept the reservation. If the minimum isn't met, the ranch contacts guests about rescheduling.

Refund deadline

Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund through this booking. Later cancellation isn't refunded under these terms. Monday cancellations need to be sent by email because the ranch is closed on Sundays.

Questions

People also ask

  • How much is the Gunstock Ranch scenic horseback ride?

Gunstock's scenic ride costs from $155 per person for 90 minutes. Your guide and use of a helmet are included, along with parking. You arrange the journey to the ranch yourself, and bottled water isn't supplied with the ticket.

  • Can beginners take the Gunstock Ranch scenic ride?

Yes, the 90-minute scenic ride stays at a walk. It doesn't include trotting or cantering. Your safety demonstration comes before the ride, so a beginner should still arrive for the full check-in and briefing process.

  • Can you book the Gunstock Ranch scenic ride alone?

No, this activity requires at least two people per booking. The tour group can have up to 12 riders. Book with someone who can take the same departure, since a shared tour doesn't remove the minimum for your reservation.

  • Can a 6-year-old take the Gunstock Ranch scenic ride?

No, this option starts at age 7. The riding age applies to the whole 90-minute route, so a younger child can't join just part of it.

  • Does rain cancel the Gunstock Ranch scenic ride?

No, the 90-minute ride normally goes ahead in rain. The ranch cancels if conditions become unsafe. You can then choose another date or a full refund, but deciding not to attend yourself is governed by the ordinary cancellation deadline.
