Options

Which option to book

The same scenic route runs at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. Your guide takes photos on both departures.

Option Departures
Stunning views of Oahu 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Mon to Sat
Means: Pick 3 p.m. if you want to keep the morning free for other plans in Waikiki.

The catch: Repairs close part of Makapuu's upper lookout until early November.

Route

How does the day work?

The vehicle follows the southeast coast before turning toward the Pali and Tantalus viewpoints on the return to Waikiki.

  1. pass by
    1. Queen Kapiolani Park

You pass the park between Waikiki and Diamond Head. It isn't a stop for exploring on foot.

  2. 15 min
    2. Diamond Head Lookout

The coastal lookout gives you ocean views near Diamond Head. This visit doesn't include the summit trail.

  3. pass by
    3. Kahala

The route passes the large homes along Kahala's coast. You stay in the vehicle.

  4. 10 min
    4. Hawaii Kai Lookout

You look across Hawaii Kai toward the south coast. Diamond Head is visible from the viewpoint.

  5. 15 min
    5. Lanai Lookout

Ocean views are the reason to stop here. Neighboring islands may be visible when the weather is clear.

  6. 10 min
    6. Halona Blowhole

Waves can force spray through the lava tube below. The lookout keeps the stop focused on the coast.

  7. 10 min
    7. Halona Cove

The cove shares the blowhole's lookout and appeared in From Here to Eternity. You view the cove from above without swimming.

  8. 20 min
    8. Makapuu Lookout

The lookout faces the coastline and lighthouse. Repairs limit access to its upper viewing area until early November.

  9. 15 min
    9. Nuuanu Pali Lookout

The mountain viewpoint opens onto the windward coast. Your guide connects it with the battle at the Pali.

  10. 15 min
    10. Tantalus Lookout

The final viewpoint looks back toward Waikiki and Diamond Head. Your guide can help with photos.

Most viewpoint stops last 10 to 20 minutes. The full circuit takes 3 to 4 hours and ends back at your Waikiki pickup or meeting point.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Waikiki meeting: One meeting point is outside Queen Kapiolani Hotel at 150 Kapahulu Avenue. Other choices include Moana Surfrider and Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach.
  • Pickup message: Your text gives the meeting location and pickup time. It also identifies the vehicle by its license plate.
  • Before departure: Arrive 30 minutes before the tour's start at the assigned point. The morning and afternoon departures use the same pickup arrangements.

Before you book

  • Pickup details arrive roughly 1 hour before your tour. Check your ship's deadline with the tour team before booking, since a return in time isn't promised.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

Choose this 3- to 4-hour route for a short trip as a couple or family. Children must be aged 7 and up. Your guide takes photos along the way. It's a fit when coastal views matter more to you than reaching the North Shore.

For Dole and Haleiwa, Star's half day lasts 6.5 hours and costs from $100 per adult. Oahu Photo Tours' sunrise route provides a photographer guide for a full island day, from $175 per adult.

Means: Pick the 3 p.m. departure when you want breakfast and the morning free before leaving Waikiki.

Who it's not for

  • Families bringing children under 7
  • Travelers wanting Dole or the North Shore
  • Guests seeking a swimming stop

Good to know

Know before you go

Minimum age

Tickets begin at age 7, with child prices through age 13. Your booking must include an adult, so the child ticket isn't a place to travel alone.

Food and photos

Your guide's photos and bottled water are provided during the drive. Snacks and lunch aren't covered, so any food purchases need their own budget.

Pickup text

The collection message normally arrives roughly 1 hour before departure. It gives your location and time, with the vehicle's license plate to help you identify it.

Lookout repairs

Repairs limit access to Makapuu's upper viewing area until early November. The stop uses the parts of the lookout that stay open.

Refund window

Your cancellation must be at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund. Later cancellations aren't refunded if you decide against the outing.

Mobile booking

Each mobile booking accepts 1 to 28 travelers, with an adult required. Weather or too few guests can stop the tour from running. Check with the tour team that enough guests have booked.
